In January 1901, MOUNT VERNON BANK was chartered and is what we know today as the oldest bank in this area. The officer’s in 1901 were as follows; President, Dr. J.H. McArthur, Vice-President, Alex McArthur, Cashier, W.A. Peterson; Director’s W.H. McQueen, L.B. McLemore, D.A. McRae, William H. Arthur and Joseph W. Sharpe. “THERE ARE MANY BANKS AS GOOD AS THIS ONE BUT NONE BETTER” this was our slogan in the early 1900’s.

In November 1995, MOUNT VERNON BANK was purchased by a group of local citizens. In 1999 the office on the Westside of Vidalia was opened. The current directors are: CHAIRMAN-CEO - Don M. Thigpen, CFO – Robert E. Thigpen, Jr., PRESIDENT – Ronnie W. Green, John E. Roller, G.M. Joiner and Vernon E. Sumner.

In April 2009, MOUNT VERNON BANK opened its 3rd location at 2109 East First Street in Vidalia. With 3 fully staffed locations, 2 in Vidalia and one in Mount Vernon, we truly are a hometown bank.
